The Costco Treat I Always Stock up on for the Holidays Is Back

A few years ago, my son came home from one of his after-school activities with a box of St. Michel Grande Galette Cookies. It was a thoughtful end-of-year gift from his instructor, and a new-to-me product that I was excited to try. I opened the box that evening, expecting a standard cookie, but I was immediately blown away by how rich, buttery, and crisp they were.

I arranged the rest on a dessert platter for a gathering later that week, and guests couldn’t stop asking where I bought them. I later learned that the box came from Costco and started keeping an eye out for their annual return to shelves just before the holidays—and I’m apparently not the only fan eagerly waiting.

St. Michel Grande Galette Cookies

  • Price: $9.99 for a 36-cookie box

  • Why I Adore It: I love these buttery French cookies for their delicate, crumbly snap, hint of sea salt, and melt-in-your-mouth richness—they taste wonderfully fancy, make an effortless host gift, and save me time during the hectic holiday season.

Why I Love Costco’s St. Michel Grande Galette Cookies

St. Michel has been baking in France since 1905, and its signature galettes stick to a short list of quality ingredients: real French butter, flour, sugar, free-range eggs, skim milk powder, Guerande Sea Salt, and a leavener. To me, the simplicity is evident in the flavor and texture. These round cookies have a crumbly snap and melt slowly on the tongue with just the right touch of sea salt to cut through the richness. Every bite delivers an unmistakable butter flavor, which makes sense given the dough is made up of 24% butter.

At $9.99 for a 36-cookie box at Costco, they taste remarkably fancy for an everyday price tag. I like to buy a few boxes as a standby host gift that the recipients will inevitably be impressed by (It’s French!). When I need to quickly grab something on my way out the door, I’ll tie a festive velvet ribbon around a box and pair it with a bottle of wine or a tin of tea.

Back at home, they’re just as versatile. I set them out on holiday dessert boards alongside dark chocolate and fresh berries, crumble them over vanilla ice cream, or simply sneak one with my afternoon coffee before running out to school pickup.

While I still love baking homemade cookies, December schedules don’t always leave room for rolled dough and flour-dusted counters. St. Michel’s galettes have become my favorite holiday shortcut—yet another Costco find I always make sure never to run out of.
