Now that it’s officially fall, I’m craving delicious, warm comfort foods. A heaping bowl of broccoli cheddar soup, a hearty portion of chili, or a big slice of lasagna are what I’m always in the mood for when dinnertime rolls around.
As I fine-tune my fall meal rotation, I usually do a pantry sweep to see what staples I need to stock up on. And while I would love to have an entire shelf dedicated to Rao’s or Michaels of Brooklyn’s pasta sauces, my wallet wants me to be slightly more responsible.
Last year, this would have crushed me. But when I found a cheaper pasta sauce at Aldi that still delivered on flavor and quality, I knew that I had hit the jackpot.

Why I Love Aldi’s Priano Marinara Sauce
I always grab a jar of Priano Marinara Sauce when I’m at Aldi. A 24-ounce jar costs $3.29, a full $5 cheaper than a jar of Rao’s. It goes on sale frequently at my local store, so I’ve even gotten one for cheap as $2.45.
The most important thing I’m looking for in a jarred pasta sauce is flavor, and the Priano marinara sauce delivers on that classic tomato taste. It includes tomatoes, obviously, but also garlic, olive oil, salt, sugar, and onion powder. The ingredient list keeps things incredibly simple, and the result is a satisfying marinara.
What I also like is that it’s really easy to adjust the sauce to fit different dishes I’m working on. For example, I like to add a few shakes of crushed red pepper for a spicy kick that amps up the flavor on a basic spaghetti dish.
In my opinion, the entire line of Priano sauces at Aldi tastes almost like Rao’s offerings. There’s a tomato basil that I love using for pizza sauce, and the four cheese is my go-to for lasagna soup. The lineup includes a couple of alfredo and pesto sauces, too.
The next time I’m at Aldi, I’m going to stock up on more of these sauces to elevate the flavor of my weeknight pasta favorites (made with another on of my Aldi favorites, the bronze die-cut pasta). Saving $5 a jar on sauce without compromising on flavor is a total win-win in my kitchen.
